Job Description

Step into a high-impact contract role where your PLC programming expertise directly keeps complex automation systems running at peak performance. This is an opportunity to work on diverse projects, tackle challenging control issues, and see the immediate results of your work on the plant floor.

About the Role:
You will be responsible for developing, modifying, and troubleshooting PLC and HMI code to meet detailed work instructions and customer specifications. Working closely with engineering and maintenance teams, you will ensure reliable operation of automated systems, networks, and field devices. Your work will be critical to minimizing downtime, improving system performance, and ensuring safe, stable operation across multiple installations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write, modify, and debug PLC code in line with programmer work instructions and customer requirements.
  • Perform corrective maintenance, non-routine repairs, and modifications on PLC/HMI code and associated control system components.
  • Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and control system faults to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Commission industrial networks and configure stable communication between PLCs, network components, switches, and ancillary devices.
  • Calibrate and fine-tune control system parameters to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Check and verify the function of switches on cylinders, actuators, and other field devices to ensure proper operation.
  • Document changes to programs, configurations, and system setups in accordance with project and customer standards.
  • Collaborate with on-site teams during start-up and commissioning to validate system functionality and support go-live activities.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience programming and debugging PLCs in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and maintaining PLC/HMI-based control systems.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols used in PLC environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to commission control systems and establish stable communication between PLCs and network devices.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control drawings.
  • Ability to systematically diagnose faults on cylinders, actuators, sensors, and related field devices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a contract/project-based setting.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites within Ohio as required by project demands.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with major PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or similar).
  • Familiarity with HMI/SCADA development environments and screen configuration.
  • Exposure to safety PLCs and functional safety standards in industrial automation.
  • Experience in automotive, food & beverage, or other high-volume manufacturing sectors.
  • Knowledge of industrial Ethernet, managed switches, and advanced network diagnostics.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Controls Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Formal training or certification in PLC programming or industrial automation (preferred).
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, or equivalent vendor certifications) are an advantage.

If you are a skilled PLC programmer who thrives on solving complex control challenges and delivering reliable automation solutions, this contract role offers an excellent platform to make an immediate impact—apply now.
