Job Title: Commissioning Engineer (Automation)

Location: Alabama & South Carolina USA

Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer with a strong background in industrial automation to support the installation, commissioning, and handover of automated systems. The successful candidate will have solid PLC programming experience, strong electrical knowledge, and a proven track record working with automation equipment in industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission and support automated systems, ensuring they operate safely, reliably, and in line with project specifications.
  • Program, configure, test, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems.
  • Install, commission, and validate automation equipment on-site.
  • Diagnose electrical and control system faults and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Work closely with project engineers, electricians, and operations teams during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Support reliability improvements by identifying recurring issues and recommending system enhancements.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant safety standards, regulations, and company procedures.
  • Produce and maintain commissioning documentation, test records, and technical reports.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Commissioning Engineer within the automation sector.
  • Strong PLC programming experience.
  • Solid electrical knowledge, supported by relevant qualifications or training.
  • Experience with the installation and commissioning of automation equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in reliability engineering or system performance improvement.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively on-site and independently.

Desirable Experience

  • Hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs.
  • Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation) PLCs.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites as required.
