Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Nurse Manager, Emergency Services is a key leader responsible for the comprehensive management of our Emergency Department. This role involves overseeing staff performance, ensuring exceptional patient care activities, and upholding the highest professional and ethical standards. You will collaborate closely with other healthcare team members to deliver outstanding, quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Excellence: Ensure patient care is delivered in compliance with established standards of care and practice, demonstrating expert competency in emergency care specific to the unit.
- Operational Leadership: Make informed decisions regarding unit and personnel needs, effectively balancing patient care requirements with financial expectations.
- Strategic Integration: Seamlessly integrate the Emergency Department into the primary functions of the hospital through effective collaboration with other healthcare teams.
- Policy & Procedure: Develop, implement, and integrate policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services within the Emergency Department.
- Staffing & Development: Evaluate and manage staffing levels to ensure a qualified and competent team. Determine staff qualifications and competencies, providing continuous orientation, education, and training to maintain and enhance skills.
- Quality & Performance Improvement: Lead continuous assessment and improvement initiatives for cost-effective, high-quality patient care services. Conduct annual unit and performance improvement assessments, and evaluate equipment and resource utilization.
- Community Engagement: Engage in unit-specific marketing and educational activities to benefit the community.
- Team Management: Select, interview, and make recommendations for hiring and retaining employees. Monitor and evaluate the delivery of patient care and task completion by staff.
- Safety & Environment: Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients, families, and personnel, ensuring adherence to safety and infection control policies.
- Continuing Education: Take responsibility for and maintain continuing education to support essential duties.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Current Virginia RN license or a multi-state compact RN license is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is strongly preferred.
- Experience:
- Five (5) or more years of previous nursing experience in an emergency department is required.
- At least one (1) year of supervisory or management experience is preferred.
- Chest pain accreditation experience is a plus.
