  • 1+ year of hands-on litigation paralegal experience

  • Knowledge of California litigation procedures, including the California Code of Civil Procedure, Local Rules, and court filing procedures
  • Strong calendaring, deadline management, organization, and attention to detail
  • Paralegal certificate and/or relevant legal education
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills

FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Litigation Paralegal to support two busy attorneys within a statewide law firm specializing in Medical Malpractice and Elder Abuse defense. This full-time, direct-hire role will provide hands-on litigation and case-management support including preparation of pleadings and discovery, law and motion support, calendaring, court filings, deposition and mediation coordination, and general case organization. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines and shifting priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Preparing correspondence and litigation-related documents under attorney supervision
  • Preparing pleadings, discovery, and law and motion documents
  • Providing day-to-day litigation support to assigned attorneys
  • Supporting case management throughout the litigation process
  • Maintaining attorney calendars and critical litigation deadlines
  • Calendaring hearings, filing deadlines, discovery dates, and other case-related events
  • Coordinating conferences, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations
  • Assisting with state and federal court filings
  • Monitoring applicable court rules and filing procedures
  • Working with attorney services and outside vendors as needed
  • Organizing and maintaining case files and litigation documentation
  • Supporting attorneys with preparation for hearings, depositions, mediations, and other case activities
  • Proofreading legal documents for accuracy, grammar, spelling, and formatting
  • Tracking multiple deadlines and priorities simultaneously
  • Communicating professionally with attorneys, clients, vendors, courts, and other parties as appropriate
  • Providing administrative and secretarial support as needed
  • Keeping assigned cases organized and moving forward
  • Working closely with attorneys and other team members in a collaborative environment
  • Maintaining confidentiality of client and case information
  • Taking ownership of assigned responsibilities and following matters through completion
  • Performing other litigation and legal support duties as assigned

The selected candidate will also possess:

  • 1+ year of litigation paralegal experience required
  • Experience supporting California civil litigation preferred
  • Medical Malpractice or Elder Abuse defense experience a plus
  • Paralegal certificate and/or relevant legal education preferred
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Familiarity with the California Code of Civil Procedure required
  • Knowledge of California Local Rules and court filing procedures preferred
  • Familiarity with Federal Rules preferred
  • Experience preparing pleadings and discovery required
  • Law and motion support experience preferred
  • Litigation calendaring experience required
  • Court filing and e-filing experience preferred
  • Experience coordinating depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and conferences preferred
  • Understanding of litigation procedures and legal terminology required, or demonstrated ability to learn quickly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills required
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail required
  • Strong time-management skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a legal team
  • Professional phone and interpersonal skills required
  • Microsoft Word proficiency required
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency required
  • Microsoft Outlook proficiency required
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership of responsibilities
  • Ability to work onsite in Brea, CA
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while reviewing pleadings, discovery, correspondence, court filings, calendars, and case documentation
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, data entry, document preparation, filing, scanning, and standard office tasks
  • Ability to review legal documents, court rules, calendars, case files, and computer screens for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate by phone, email, and in person throughout the workday
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the office as needed
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move standard case files, binders, records, and office materials
  • Ability to maintain accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and attention to detail while managing multiple deadlines and legal matters
