FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Project Engineer to provide technical leadership for engineering programs from proposal through design, development, analysis, testing, reporting, and qualification. This role is responsible for leading engineering activities, supporting program planning and budgeting, coordinating technical discussions, managing customer and supplier interfaces, and working closely with Design, Reliability, Manufacturing, Quality, and Program Management teams. The ideal candidate will have strong aerospace or defense project engineering experience, technical knowledge of hydraulic and electromechanical systems, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead cross-functional engineering efforts while managing schedule, budget, risk, and customer requirements.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing engineering program activities throughout the full lifecycle, including proposal, design, analysis, development, and qualification testing
- Providing internal leadership for engineering programs related to design, development, analysis, testing, reporting, budget, and schedule
- Serving as the primary technical interface with customers
- Generating and reviewing technical reports, presentations, and formal customer-facing documents
- Performing program planning and budgeting activities
- Acting as a liaison with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
- Leading project teams and interfacing with customers and operations personnel
- Working closely with functional departments to ensure requirements are addressed
- Supporting recurring and non-recurring cost management, schedule adherence, safety, product functionality, and customer satisfaction
- Collaborating with Design, Reliability, Manufacturing, Quality, and Program Management teams
- Supporting technical discussions and formal coordination meetings with commercial and military customers
- Applying knowledge of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes
- Working courteously and effectively with customers, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve project goals
- Performing risk management and alerting senior management when concerns may affect project cost, schedule, or system safety
- Preparing project data deliverables
- Developing requirements specifications for subcontracted components
- Working independently and as a leader or key contributor on project teams
- Participating in and supporting meetings involving company or customer personnel
- Traveling to meet with customers and vendors or to perform equipment evaluations as needed
- Presenting and supporting technical ideas that may affect current and future programs
- Performing other duties as assigned
The selected candidate will also possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience required
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background preferred
- 6+ years of experience in project engineering, project management, or a closely related technical leadership role preferred
- Aerospace or defense industry experience highly preferred
- Working knowledge of hydraulic and electromechanical systems required
- Experience in an aerospace, defense, or closely related technical environment preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, teamwork, organizational, and project management skills required
- Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills required
- Ability to demonstrate motivational and leadership qualities required
- Strong business and technical judgment required
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail required
- Ability to manage multiple priorities required
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills required
- Ability to communicate technical issues clearly through written, verbal, and presentation formats
- Experience with hoists and winches preferred
- Knowledge of military specifications and civil aerospace requirements preferred
- AS9100 quality system experience preferred
- Experience working with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and cross-functional engineering teams
- Ability to support technical discussions with commercial and military customers
- Ability to work onsite in Whippany, NJ
- Ability to travel as needed
- Successful candidates must meet all requirements under ITAR

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while reviewing technical documents, engineering data, schedules, budgets, reports, presentations, drawings, specifications, and program information
- Ability to communicate by phone, email, video meeting, and in person throughout the workday
- Ability to review technical documents, engineering drawings, customer requirements, supplier documentation, reports, presentations, and computer screens for extended periods
- Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, documentation, reporting, presentation preparation, data review, and standard engineering tasks
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout office, engineering, manufacturing, customer, vendor, or test environments as needed
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move standard office files, engineering documents, test materials, equipment, or supplies as needed
- Ability to travel to customer, vendor, or equipment evaluation sites as needed
- Ability to wear required PPE and follow applicable site, manufacturing, testing, and safety procedures
Salary Range: $100,000 to $120,000/year
