Job Description
Role Summary:The NMP Process Engineer supports the production, purification, and recovery of N- Methylpyrrolidone (NMP), a critical solvent in the manufacturing process. This role plays a key part in ensuring high-purity NMP production, process reliability, and regulatory compliance to meet the growing demands of the industry. The engineer will focus on process optimization, operational efficiency, safety, and support for continuous improvement initiatives within a high-volume chemical manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:1. NMP Process Design & Optimization
- Design and optimize chemical processes related to the production and distillation NMP, ensuring compliance with purity specifications required by battery manufacturers.
- Utilize process simulation tools such as Aspen HYSYS or Aspen Plus to model and improve unit operations (e.g., distillation, solvent recovery, heat exchange).
- Implement process enhancements to increase product yield, reduce energy usage, and improve throughput.
2. Technical Support for Operations
- Provide daily technical support to production units, resolving process deviations, troubleshooting equipment issues, and maintaining product quality standards.
- Monitor and analyze key process parameters (flow rates, temperature profiles, vacuum systems, impurity levels) and make real-time recommendations.
- Lead and support root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPAs) in collaboration with QA/QC and operations teams.
3. Quality & Compliance for Battery-Grade NMP
- Ensure that all processes meet stringent purity, moisture content, and contaminant thresholds required for manufacturing.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to monitor NMP purity and ensure compliance with customer specifications, industry standards (e.g., SEMI, ISO), and internal quality systems.
4. Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure all operations comply with EHS standards and chemical handling regulations (OSHA, EPA, REACH).
- Participate in PHA, HAZOP, and MOC reviews for any process changes related to NMP handling or recovery systems.
- Support environmental reporting and solvent emissions tracking, particularly for VOC compliance.
5. Capital & Continuous Improvement Projects
- Lead or support capital projects involving NMP process upgrades, including new equipment installations, energy recovery systems, and emission reduction technologies.
- Work cross-functionally with maintenance, automation, and project engineering teams to implement process control improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
- Identify and implement lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement strategies.
6. Collaboration & Communication
- Act as a technical liaison with manufacturing customers regarding NMP specifications, usage guidelines, and supply chain considerations.
- Participate in cross-functional teams, including R&D, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams, to align process capabilities with customer needs and new market requirements.
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
- 4–6 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, or related refinery or petrochemical field
- Proficiency in process simulation and design tools (Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
- Familiarity with industry standards, including high-purity solvent specifications, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, REACH, etc.).
Key Competencies:- Deep understanding of solvent-based chemical processes
- Analytical and data-driven problem-solving
- Safety-first mindset with strong regulatory knowledge
- Project management and cross-functional communication skills
- Commitment to innovation, quality, and continuous improvement
