Job Description
Join a growing engineering team delivering complex mechanical solutions for mission-critical data centre environments. This is a hands-on design role where you’ll take projects from concept through to detailed design, working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver robust, efficient cooling and HVAC systems. You’ll have the opportunity to shape high-impact infrastructure that underpins modern digital operations.
About the Role:
In this role you will be responsible for the mechanical design and integration of HVAC, cooling systems, and piping networks for data centre facilities. You will develop detailed designs, models, and documentation that ensure reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. Working with project engineers and stakeholders, you will help drive technical decisions and support projects through design, review, and construction phases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop mechanical designs for data centre cooling systems, HVAC, and associated piping networks from concept through detailed design.
- Produce and update 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and SolidWorks for mechanical layouts, assemblies, and details.
- Create and maintain piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for mechanical and process systems.
- Perform equipment selection and sizing for chillers, pumps, air handling units, and other mechanical components.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, and controls teams to ensure fully integrated solutions.
- Prepare design documentation, specifications, and technical reports to support project deliverables and construction.
- Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and start-up.
- Participate in design reviews, value engineering efforts, and continuous improvement of design standards and templates.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in mechanical design for building services, industrial facilities, or data centres.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, cooling systems, and mechanical utilities for large facilities.
- Hands-on experience with piping design, routing, and layout for chilled water, condenser water, and related systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for mechanical drafting and 3D modelling.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and interpret P&IDs for mechanical and process systems.
- Familiarity with relevant mechanical codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, applicable building codes).
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with internal teams, clients, and contractors.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience specifically with data centre mechanical infrastructure and white space cooling strategies.
- Background in computational analysis such as basic CFD or thermal modelling for HVAC and cooling systems.
- Exposure to BIM tools and workflows for coordination with other disciplines.
- Experience supporting commissioning activities and performance testing of mechanical systems.
- Understanding of controls strategies for HVAC and cooling systems in critical environments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (preferred or willingness to obtain).
- Additional certifications in HVAC design, data centre engineering, or related disciplines (preferred).
