Job Description

Join a fast-growing renewable energy team where your technical skills keep critical assets running safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on role working across substation and solar utility PV systems, where you’ll be trusted to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimise key equipment that underpins reliable power generation.

About the Role:

As an O&M Technician, you will be responsible for the safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of substation and solar PV equipment, including inverters and associated systems. You will ensure assets are operating within performance and safety standards through planned preventive maintenance, accurate testing and calibration, and timely fault resolution. Your work will directly support plant reliability, uptime, and compliance with regulatory and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on substation equipment, solar PV arrays, inverters, and associated electrical systems.
  • Conduct equipment calibration and functional testing to verify performance and identify potential issues before failure.
  • Execute troubleshooting and root cause analysis on electrical and mechanical faults, implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Apply LOTO procedures and other safety protocols during all maintenance and repair activities to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Inspect and test protective devices, switchgear, transformers, and related substation components to maintain reliability.
  • Monitor system performance, identify anomalies, and carry out adjustments or repairs to optimise output and efficiency.
  • Complete detailed maintenance reports, work orders, and documentation in the CMMS or other reporting systems.
  • Support commissioning, upgrades, and modifications of solar PV and substation equipment as required.

Key Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience in operation and maintenance of electrical power systems, preferably in solar PV or utility environments.
  • Proven experience with preventive maintenance, equipment calibration, and functional testing of electrical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices, OSHA standards, and application of LOTO procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Proficiency in using test instruments (e.g., multimeters, insulation resistance testers, relay test sets) for diagnostics and verification.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and at heights, with willingness to respond to call-outs and work varied shifts as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and adherence to established procedures.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with utility-scale solar PV plants, including central and string inverter systems.
  • Familiarity with substation protection and control systems, SCADA, and remote monitoring platforms.
  • Background in commissioning, performance testing, or reliability improvement projects.
  • Basic mechanical skills for working with racking, tracking systems, and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E and other industry-specific electrical safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certificate or associate degree in Electrical, Electronics, Renewable Energy, or related field preferred.
  • Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent industrial electrical qualification advantageous.
  • OSHA safety training (e.g., OSHA 10/30) preferred.
  • Relevant manufacturer training or certifications on inverters, protective relays, or substation equipment beneficial.

If you’re a safety-focused technician who takes pride in keeping power systems running at their best, this role offers a solid, long-term opportunity to grow your career in renewable energy. Apply now to bring your expertise to a team that values reliability, precision, and professionalism.
