Shift: 1st (6AM - 2:30PM), Monday - Friday, OT available

About the Role:

As a Maintenance Assistant, you will support the ongoing reliability of equipment and facilities through routine preventive maintenance and timely repairs. Working closely with experienced technicians, you will help diagnose issues, carry out basic electrical and mechanical work, and ensure all tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Your contribution will minimise downtime, extend equipment life, and uphold high standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on machinery, tools, and facility systems according to established schedules.
  • Assist with basic electrical repairs, such as replacing components, troubleshooting simple faults, and supporting more complex work under supervision.
  • Carry out mechanical repairs and adjustments on equipment, including lubrication, part replacement, and minor fabrication tasks.
  • Use computer systems to log maintenance activities, update work orders, track parts usage, and review maintenance schedules.
  • Support shop organisation by maintaining clean, orderly work areas and ensuring tools and equipment are stored correctly.
  • Follow all safety procedures and OSHA guidelines while performing maintenance tasks, including proper use of PPE and lockout/tagout practices.
  • Inspect equipment for signs of wear, damage, or safety concerns and promptly report issues to supervisors or lead technicians.
  • Assist with setup, testing, and commissioning of equipment after repairs or maintenance activities.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a maintenance, shop, or similar hands-on industrial environment.
  • Practical skills in preventive maintenance on mechanical and/or electrical equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic electrical repair tasks safely and accurately.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience using hand and power tools for equipment repair.
  • Working knowledge of safety practices and OSHA standards in a shop or industrial setting.
  • Competent computer skills for using maintenance software, email, and basic data entry.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, maintenance procedures, and basic technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or automotive shop environment.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Basic understanding of lockout/tagout procedures and other specific safety programs.
  • Experience assisting with troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Forklift or other material-handling equipment experience.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Vocational or technical training in maintenance, industrial technology, electrical, or a related field preferred.
  • OSHA safety training or certification beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record may be required depending on site needs.
