Job Description
Join a growing engineering team at the heart of the energy sector, working on technically challenging projects that directly impact drilling performance and safety. This is a chance to apply your mechanical expertise in a hands-on environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary professionals to develop and support advanced drilling fluid systems and related equipment.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for the mechanical engineering design, analysis, and support of equipment and systems associated with drilling fluids operations. Working closely with chemical, mechanical, and petroleum engineers, you will ensure equipment meets performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. Your work will contribute to reliable field operations and continuous improvement of products and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, analyze, and validate mechanical components and systems used in drilling fluids applications.
- Develop engineering calculations, models, and drawings in compliance with ASME, API, and ASTM standards.
- Support equipment selection, specification, and configuration for drilling fluids systems.
- Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting of mechanical issues in field and lab environments.
- Prepare clear, detailed technical reports, design documentation, and engineering justifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, R&D, manufacturing, and field personnel) to implement design improvements.
- Review vendor documentation and ensure mechanical integrity and compliance with applicable standards.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the energy, oil & gas, or related heavy industrial sector.
- Practical exposure to drilling fluids systems, equipment, or closely related drilling operations.
- Strong working knowledge of ASME, API, and ASTM standards as applied to mechanical design and equipment.
- Proficiency with mechanical design tools and software (e.g., CAD and basic analysis tools).
- Demonstrated ability to write structured, concise technical reports and engineering documentation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience working alongside chemical or petroleum engineers on drilling or production projects.
- Background in the design or operation of pumps, mixing systems, tanks, and pressure-containing equipment.
- Familiarity with field operations, commissioning, or maintenance of drilling-related equipment.
- Understanding of reliability engineering, FEA, or advanced mechanical analysis techniques.
- Experience in a project-based environment with exposure to cost, schedule, and risk considerations.
Qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or progress toward licensure (preferred).
- Additional training or certification related to oil & gas, drilling operations, or pressure equipment design (preferred).
