Job Description

The Technician performs factory acceptance testing (FAT) and verification testing for the completion of OSS Umbilicals and related subsea products. This is a highly technical, quality-critical role requiring hands-on expertise in high-pressure hydrostatic testing, fiber optic fusion splicing and OTDR testing, and low/medium voltage cable testing.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge with an unwavering commitment to product integrity and safety. You will play a critical role in ensuring that every product delivered to the client meets rigorous performance and safety standards. This position is based in Mobile, Alabama and requires local candidates only.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

High Pressure Hydrostatic Testing

Perform and assist in hydrostatic pressure testing of SDSS Umbilicals and DE Products at pressures from 10,000 to 30,000 PSI
Set up specialized high-pressure equipment, perform leak checks using appropriate procedures, and verify test completion
Operate and perform basic maintenance on high pressure water jet systems and Hydratron pumps
Set up digital recording of pressure tests using CompactRIO, NI Equipment, pressure transducers, and related instrumentation
Interpret test data — plots, graphs, and tabulated parameters — to determine pass/fail conditions and escalate when further analysis is required

Fiber Optic Testing & Splicing

Perform fiber optic fusion splicing in compliance with Outside Plant (OSP) certification standards
Execute OTDR testing through fusion splices and interpret results to verify performance
Troubleshoot fiber optic systems and identify issues at the component level

Low & Medium Voltage Cable Testing

Perform low voltage (up to 1,000V) and medium voltage (6,000V+) cable core testing
Execute conductor resistance, insulation resistance, crosstalk/attenuation, impedance, and High Potential (HiPot) testing
Measure resistance, continuity, and voltage using calibrated test equipment

Documentation & Quality

Record all pertinent test data using correct digital recording methods and ensure data accuracy throughout
Identify, document, and coordinate resolution of Non-Conformance Records (NCRs); escalate as needed
Read and interpret electrical, fiber optic, and hydraulic schematics
Understand fittings, pressure ratings, and proper engagement requirements
Monitor and report tool status throughout the testing process

Safety & Communication

Maintain a safe work environment by following safe work practices, adhering to all safety guidelines, and utilizing appropriate PPE
Strictly follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) policies and procedures
Provide timely, clear communication to stakeholders including production status, tasks completed, detailed descriptions, continuous improvement ideas, and shift pass-downs
Maintain cleanliness and order in all working areas to the highest degree required for assembly operations
Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Required

High school diploma or GED
Hands-on experience with high-pressure testing between 5,000 PSI and 25,000 PSI (hydraulic or hydrostatic; shipyard hydraulic testing alone does not qualify)
Fiber optic fusion splicing experience with demonstrated proficiency in OTDR testing through fusion splices
Low voltage cable core testing experience (conductor resistance, insulation resistance, crosstalk, HiPot)
Ability to read and interpret electrical, fiber optic, and hydraulic schematics
Working knowledge of pumps, manifolds, fittings, and pressure ratings
Proficiency with digital test recording equipment and instrumentation
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity and product quality
Must be local to the Mobile, Alabama area — relocation is not offered

Preferred

Outside Plant (OSP) fiber optic certification
Experience with CompactRIO, NI Equipment, or similar industrial data acquisition systems
Familiarity with Non-Conformance Record (NCR) processes and quality management systems
Experience in subsea, oil and gas, or defense manufacturing environments
Experience with Hydratron pumps or high-pressure water jet systems
