Job Description
Heavy Equipment Operator
Operates heavy earth-moving equipment — including track-type dozers, loaders, backhoes, off-road trucks, graders, and rock drills — in a strip mine environment.
Job Functions
- Operate heavy equipment for pushing waste and ore dumps
- Keep records of loads, equipment fueling, and maintenance activity
- Perform operational maintenance including greasing, fueling, cleaning, and checking wear parts
- Clean tracks, buckets, and cabs using shovels, picks, and brooms
- Support mechanics with mechanical repairs as needed
- Service equipment including lubricant, filter, and wear part changes
- Perform additional tasks as assigned
Physical Requirements
- Climb on and off equipment repeatedly throughout each shift
- Maintain concentration during repetitive equipment cycles lasting several hours
- Lift, carry, and manipulate heavy-duty wrenches and tools when installing wear parts and supporting mechanics
- Work shift schedules including afternoon and graveyard shifts
- Perform repetitive hand and arm functions operating jacks, ratchet wrenches, chain hoists, and come-alongs

- Perform all duties safely and in an environmentally responsible manner
- Continuously inspect work areas for unsafe or substandard conditions and practices
- Correct or report any unsafe conditions to the immediate supervisor
- Participate in all required HSE training classes, exercises, and performance development activities
- Report all injuries, near-misses, property damage, and hazardous conditions to the immediate supervisor
