Onsite in Richmond, VA

12 month contract assignment

 

We are seeking a meticulous and motivated R&D Laboratory Technician to join our product development team. This role is responsible for supporting the creation and testing of new formulations in a fast-paced laboratory environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with chemical compounding, a strong commitment to safety and quality protocols, and excellent documentation skills.

 

Core Responsibilities:

 

  • Support the formulation development team with hands-on liquid compounding, prototyping, and preparation of samples for internal evaluation.
  • Operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment, such as analytical balances and pH meters, while handling various ingredients and chemical materials.
  • Independently conduct experiments and prototyping activities according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
  • Generate, document, and review laboratory data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to procedures.
  • Manage the inventory of raw materials and laboratory supplies, maintaining detailed and compliant records according to internal quality management systems.
  • Receive incoming shipments of materials, verify them against documentation, and ensure all items are properly labeled and stored.
  • Assemble small-scale prototype devices for testing, which may include the handling of minor electrical components.
  • Prepare, label, and distribute prototype samples to various internal teams and facilities, coordinating shipments when necessary.
  • Assist with the submission of samples for analytical testing and help manage the associated records.
  • Provide logistical support for sensory evaluation panels, including sample preparation, scheduling, and execution assistance.

 

Mandatory Requirements & Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field.
  • Prior experience working in a chemical laboratory environment is required.
  • Must be willing and able to work with nicotine-containing materials.
  • Strong understanding of good laboratory safety practices and familiarity with quality systems such as cGMP or GLP.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word) for data entry, record-keeping, and communication.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly with documentation, following procedures, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Proven hands-on skills in weighing ingredients, preparing solutions, and compounding finished formulas.
