Maintenance & Engineering Manager - Closter, NJ - Day Shift
- Location: Closter, NJ
- Shift: Day shift with flexibility as needed
- Pay: $100k-$150k/year
- Reports To: Operations Manager
Position Summary
The Maintenance & Engineering Manager is responsible for leading all plant engineering, maintenance, and reliability functions to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing operations. This role oversees maintenance programs, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives while building and developing a high-performing, safety-focused team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all plant maintenance activities, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs
- Drive equipment uptime, reliability, and overall performance to support production targets
- Analyze downtime and equipment failures to perform root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, and vendor relationships
- Plan and coordinate plant shutdowns in collaboration with internal teams and external contractors
- Plan, manage, and execute capital improvement projects from concept through commissioning
- Provide engineering support for process improvements, equipment upgrades, and new installations
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
- Support facility layout changes, automation initiatives, and energy efficiency improvements
- Lead, coach, and develop maintenance technicians, engineers, and supervisors
- Set clear performance expectations and drive accountability across the team
- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Coordinate technical training to enhance team capabilities and equipment knowledge
- Champion plant safety and quality initiatives
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Participate in incident investigations and lead corrective action planning
Qualifications
- Strong background in industrial maintenance leadership, with maintenance experience being the primary focus
- Experience implementing or improving preventive maintenance (PM) systems strongly preferred
- Experience in metal manufacturing or roll forming environments is a plus
- Prior exposure to capital project management and plant engineering functions
- Proven ability to drive change and improve systems, processes, and team performance
- Strong leadership and team development capabilities
- Solid problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Bilingual (preferred, not required)
Additional Role Context
- This role was created to provide dedicated leadership for maintenance and engineering functions
- New Product Development (NPD) engineering projects are managed separately; however, two NPD-focused team members will report into this role
- The position requires a balance of hands-on maintenance leadership and strategic engineering oversight
