Storm Search is conducting a DIRECT HIRE search for a Regional Applications Engineer in the Michigan territory.

Role Summary

The Regional Applications Engineer independently manages an assigned territory and customer base, serving as the primary technical expert throughout the machine delivery lifecycle.

This role is responsible for:

  • Developing complete CNC machining processes

  • Programming and proving out machines

  • Selecting tooling and work-holding solutions

  • Preparing machines for shipment

  • Conducting on-site installation, runoff, and final acceptance

  • Delivering comprehensive customer training

This position requires strong independent judgment, advanced CNC turning expertise, and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining strict timelines.

Ideal for a senior-level CNC programmer / Applications Engineer who thrives in customer-facing environments and enjoys owning projects from concept to production.


Key Responsibilities

Project & Process Development

  • Review and interpret customer part prints, time studies, and machine quotations.

  • Develop robust machining processes utilizing advanced turning methodologies and best practices.

  • Write CNC programs and debug all facets of the machining process.

  • Utilize CAD/CAM software to develop and validate machining strategies.

  • Plan projects including virtual machine preparation and tooling selection.

  • Interpret CMM results and SPC data to ensure process stability and quality performance.

Tooling & Work-Holding

  • Independently select all tooling and work-holding for assigned projects.

  • Develop complete tooling packages (durable and perishable tooling).

  • Prepare documentation for tooling and project-related purchases.

Machine Setup & Delivery

  • Perform machine setup, installation, and prove-out.

  • Coordinate and execute final machine acceptance.

  • Break down and prepare machines for shipment, including inventory verification and documentation.

  • Adhere to project timelines with minimal supervision.

Customer Support & Training

  • Conduct hands-on customer training including:

    • Machine operation

    • CNC programming

    • Process optimization

    • Troubleshooting

  • Provide proactive technical support through site visits, communication, and follow-ups.

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships within assigned territory.

  • Support internal departments with project status updates and technical expertise.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.

  • 10+ years of related experience in engineering, technology, or manufacturing (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • 5+ years of shop floor management experience required.

  • Siemens controls and CAD/CAM experience required
