Project Engineer – Controls / Automation - Bensenville, IL

Compensation: Up to ~$125,000 (based on experience)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, flexible start times

Key Responsibilities

• Develop engineered quotations, including labor and material cost estimates

• Prepare written proposals and project documentation

• Design control systems and generate CAD drawings (AutoCAD Lite / AutoCAD Electrical)

• Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials

• Program PLCs, HMIs, motor drives, and servos (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley primarily)

• Support shop personnel and purchasing on technical and material issues

• Work with quality teams to ensure design integrity and compliance

• Communicate with customers and vendors throughout project execution

• Maintain documentation transmittals and project records

• Perform field startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and occasional wiring/installation

• Ensure compliance with NEC and gain working knowledge of UL 508A requirements

• Own projects end-to-end and close out all remaining issues efficiently

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in industrial controls or automation engineering

• Ability to independently quote, design, program, and commission control systems

• Strong PLC and HMI programming experience (Allen-Bradley / Rockwell preferred)

• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD tools

• Strong understanding of electrical control systems and documentation

• Ability to troubleshoot across electrical, mechanical, and system interfaces

• Strong communication skills with customers, vendors, and internal teams

• High level of ownership, accountability, and follow-through

• High school diploma required; electrical engineering degree preferred but not required
