Job Description

Job Summary: The Construction Superintendent oversees skilled trades crews and manages onsite activities for large heavy-highway, roadway, and bridge projects. Working closely with project leadership, this role provides direction, coordination, and oversight to ensure safety, productivity, and profitability across all phases of construction.

 

Supervisory responsibilities include planning and assigning work, evaluating performance, providing coaching and discipline, and assisting with hiring and training in alignment with organizational policies and applicable regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor multiple Foremen to ensure safe, productive, and high-quality work execution.
  • Foster a strong, continuous safety culture for all crews.
  • Assist the Project Manager in developing project schedules.
  • Produce 90-day and 3-week look-ahead schedules for field crews.
  • Conduct pre-planning sessions and goal-setting with teams.
  • Manage cost performance for assigned work activities.
  • Coordinate manpower, heavy equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Schedule and oversee subcontractors to support project delivery.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience progressing from Journeyman to Foreman to Superintendent.
  • 6+ years of field management experience in construction.
  • Roadway and highway project experience strongly preferred.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and company standards.
  • Effective leadership and management skills, with the ability to optimize team performance.
  • Knowledge of construction industry practices, processes, and standards and how they impact project performance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to lead diverse self-performing crews.
  • Proficient in developing project schedules using Microsoft Excel and preparing planning documents in Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to take ownership of responsibilities and communicate effectively across teams.
