Transit Bus Driver Position
Our client is seeking potential that play a vital role in keeping our community connected. They're seeking reliable, safety-focused individuals to operate our fleet of transit buses, providing essential transportation services to residents throughout our service area.
Physical Requirements & DOT Compliance
Must be able to pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination
Daily Physical Demands:
- Sitting: 7 hours daily
- Standing: 2 hours daily
- Bending/Walking: 1.5 hours daily
- Stooping/Twisting/Turning/Climbing: 1 hour daily
- Kneeling/Balancing: 30 minutes daily
- Crouching: 15 minutes daily
Lifting & Carrying Requirements:
- Lifting: Up to 50 lbs for 3 hours daily
- Carrying/Pushing: Up to 20 lbs for 1.5 hours daily
- Pulling: Up to 20 lbs for 15 minutes daily
Passenger Assistance Capabilities:
- Ability to safely load and unload passengers
- Physical capability to kneel or crouch as needed
- Ability to assist passengers on and off vehicles (may require managing total weight of 300+ pounds)
- Push and pull capabilities for wheelchair accessibility
Environmental & Sensory Requirements:
- Tolerance for temperature changes, gas fumes, and dust
- Excellent balance and reaching ability
- Good finger dexterity for vehicle controls
- Vision: Good sight with depth perception and color vision
- Hearing: Ability to hear and comprehend dialogue clearly
- Communication: Clear speech and ability to be understood
Additional Physical Capabilities:
- Extended periods of sitting and/or standing
- Occasional standing, walking, climbing, balancing
- Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
- Use of hands for fingering and tactile feedback
Compensation Structure
Without CDL:
- Starting: $16/hour
- After successful completion of training: $17/hour
With CDL (no P endorsement):
- Starting: $17/hour
- After successful completion of training: $18/hour
With CDL and P endorsement:
- Starting: $18/hour
- After successful completion of training: $19/hour
Schedule
- Training Period: First week 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Permanent Schedule: 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday
- Additional: Every Saturday with one weekday off
Primary Responsibilities
- Transport passengers safely and efficiently
- Collect fares and handle monetary transactions
- Maintain professional customer service standards
- Ensure passenger safety during boarding and alighting
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to obtain CDL within specified timeframe (if not currently held)
- Pass DOT physical examination
- Pass background check and drug screening
- Strong customer service skills
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
