This individual will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for site development and civil construction projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and deep knowledge of underground utilities, grading, paving, landscape, hardscape, and masonry scopes. You will work closely with project managers, field teams, and subcontractors to ensure successful project bidding and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for civil and site development projects
- Analyze plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements
- Perform quantity takeoffs for underground utilities, grading, paving, landscape, hardscape, and masonry work
- Solicit, review, and compare subcontractor and supplier bids
- Develop pricing for labor, equipment, and materials, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness
- Identify risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving strategies
- Coordinate with project managers and field personnel to validate production rates and constructability
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project conditions
- Maintain and update cost databases, historical data, and estimating tools
- Prepare bid summaries, budgets, and handoff documentation for awarded projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of estimating experience in civil/site development or heavy construction
- Strong experience with: underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain), grading and earthwork, paving (asphalt and concrete), landscape and irrigation, hardscape and masonry systems
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, AGTEK, or similar)
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and costs
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- High attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines
- Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) and/or similar credential preferred but not required
