Position Overview

Our firm is conducting a confidential search for a Mechanical Technical Field Advisor (TFA) to support large rotating equipment projects in the power generation sector. This is a senior, hands‑on field role providing on‑site technical leadership during turbine maintenance, outages, retrofits, and installations.

The Mechanical TFA serves as a key technical authority at site, directing mechanical execution, coordinating field labor, and ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering requirements.

Location

United States — primary work in Texas, with ~80% travel primarily within the U.S.; limited international travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on‑site technical direction for gas turbine, steam turbine, and generator mechanical assembly and disassembly
  • Lead mechanical execution during outages, maintenance events, and installations
  • Direct field labor and subcontractors, ensuring proper procedures and quality standards are followed
  • Support outage planning, daily work coordination, and schedule execution
  • Manage mechanical tooling, parts planning, and site logistics
  • Coordinate closely with project management, engineering, and customer representatives
  • Support emergency outage response and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Oversee turbine alignment, technical clearances, torque requirements, and proper rigging practices
  • Enforce safety requirements including LOTO, job walkdowns, and site safety standards
  • Prepare and deliver daily reports, technical documentation, and field feedback

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 10+ years hands‑on experience with rotating equipment in power generation or industrial environments
  • 5+ years in a field leadership or technical advisor role
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work procedures
  • Proven leadership of field labor and contractors in outage environments
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, and rotating shifts during field assignments
