Position Overview
Our firm is supporting a confidential client in the power generation sector seeking a seasoned Commissioning Engineer – Electrical. This role provides on‑site technical leadership for the commissioning and start‑up of electrical systems supporting large rotating equipment and power generation facilities.
This position plays a critical role in electrical system readiness, energization, protection verification, and safe turnover to Operations.
Location
United States — primary work in Texas, with periodic travel to other U.S. project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the electrical commissioning scope for LV/MV systems including switchgear, MCCs, transformers, UPS/DC systems, batteries, motors, VFDs, and grounding
- Develop and execute commissioning procedures, test packs, and turnover documentation
- Lead MC/RFE/RFSU readiness activities including walkdowns and punch‑list management
- Plan and safely execute energization (“first power”) activities, including switching and LOTO boundaries
- Coordinate and oversee electrical testing (IR/megger, phasing, breaker checks, transformer tests, battery/UPS testing)
- Support protection, relay, and trip path verification in coordination with controls/I&C and operations
- Troubleshoot electrical issues during commissioning and start‑up and lead corrective actions
- Enforce electrical safety standards including arc‑flash, energized work controls, and SIMOPS
- Provide technical guidance to field labor and contractors
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent commissioning experience
- 15+ years of power generation or industrial electrical commissioning experience
- Strong background in LV/MV distribution and protection systems
- Hands‑on experience with energization planning and startup support
- Deep knowledge of PTW, LOTO, and electrical safety practices
- Comfortable working rotating shifts and extended hours during commissioning phases
