Location: Yonge St & Wilson Ave area, North York
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM | 5 days or 3 days per week
Work Model: Onsite, Part time Position
Pay Rate: $25.00/hour
The Library Technician provides technical and operational support for daily library services within a public sector environment. This role is responsible for circulation activities, collection maintenance, material processing, and integrated library system (ILS) administration. The position requires strong organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to manage both physical and digital workflows to ensure efficient access to library resources.
Perform circulation services including check-in, check-out, renewals, holds, and account updates using the SYMPHONY integrated library system
Process, label, barcode, and prepare new and existing materials for circulation
Maintain accurate item and copy records within the integrated library system
Shelve, organize, and maintain collections to ensure proper stack management and accessibility
Support acquisitions and collection management using Microsoft Excel and Word for tracking and reporting
Prepare surplus materials for redistribution or disposal, including compiling lists, packaging, and coordinating transfers
Prepare materials for binding by maintaining binding schedules, organizing shipments, and conducting quality checks
Assist with serials control and ongoing collection updates
Prepare and digitize selected materials to support preservation initiatives
Retrieve and process library mail, photocopy materials, and provide general administrative support
Perform additional paraprofessional and technical library duties as assigned
Completion of at least two (2) years of post-secondary education in Library Science or a related discipline
Minimum six (6) months of recent experience shelving and supporting library operations within the last three years
Recent hands-on experience circulating materials using a major Integrated Library System (SYMPHONY, HORIZON, Innovative Interfaces, or Ex Libris)
Experience performing general library technical and administrative duties
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word
Experience using SYMPHONY circulation and serials modules is considered an asset
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
Ability to manage repetitive physical tasks including shelving and lifting materials
Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
On-site library setting combining desk, computer, and physical stack work
Standing, shelving, lifting boxes, and moving materials may be required
