The Merchant Settlement Specialist is responsible for supporting merchant settlement activities across multiple payment types, including credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, and electronic transaction methods. This role focuses on daily reconciliations, month-end close activities, reporting, and resolving discrepancies, while partnering with internal teams and store contacts.
Handle store and internal inquiries related to credit card, debit card, gift card, and electronic transactions
Perform daily merchant balancing and reconciliation of payment tenders and chargebacks across in-store and eCommerce environments
Investigate and resolve out-of-balance situations at both system and store levels
Monitor reports to ensure accuracy and integrity to the General Ledger
Prepare and post month-end journal entries
Complete balance sheet reconciliations and month-end reporting
Support monthly invoicing and settlement activities
Review, investigate, and process chargebacks and documentation requests within required timelines
Communicate with store teams regarding chargebacks and settlement discrepancies
Educate store staff on card processing procedures to reduce chargeback risk
Maintain and update merchant information in internal systems (new stores, changeovers, closures)
Respond to inquiries from stores, internal partners, and financial institutions
Follow documented processes to support accounting controls and risk management
Collaborate with IT, business analysts, and systems teams to identify and resolve issues
2+ years of experience or education in an accounting or finance environment
Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, including:
Account reconciliations
Journal entries
Month-end close
Intermediate Excel skills (reporting, reconciliations, analysis)
Experience or exposure to payment processing, loyalty programs, gift cards, or credit card environments is a strong asset
Familiarity with credit card processors or merchant services platforms (e.g., credit/debit processing) is an asset
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Clear and professional communication skills
Ability to prioritize and work with urgency in a deadline-driven environment
Bilingual English/French is considered an asset
