Job Title: Accounting & Settlement Specialist
Location: Oakville, Ontario
Employment Type: Temporary 6-months, Full-Time (with potential for extension)
Overview
We are seeking an Accounting & Settlement Specialist to join a busy finance team. This role is ideal for candidates with accounting knowledge who are detail-oriented, enjoy investigative work, and thrive in fast-paced environments. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate daily settlements, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
Key Responsibilities
Perform daily reconciliation and settlement of multiple payment types (credit, debit, gift cards, loyalty programs, etc.).
Investigate and resolve out-of-balance situations and discrepancies in financial transactions.
Prepare and execute month-end journal entries, invoices, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
Generate month-end financial reports and support internal/external audits with required documentation.
Review and process adjustments and chargebacks while meeting service level deadlines.
Communicate with internal stakeholders to resolve inquiries and provide guidance on transaction processes.
Support system and reporting improvements by working with IT and business analysts.
Maintain compliance with documented internal controls, risk management, and accounting standards.
Qualifications
2+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or settlement operations.
Strong reconciliation and month-end close experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP/accounting systems is an asset.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work with urgency and accuracy under deadlines.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
