About the Role

Organization is undergoing a major modernization of its data and reporting landscape, transitioning from legacy accounting systems to a modern Microsoft Fabric + Dynamics 365 + PracticePro environment.

We are seeking a Data Engineer who can embed into the IT organization, partner closely with accounting, operational leaders, and the internal integration team, and become the primary data & analytics engineer for the firm.

This individual will own the Fabric data environment, help build new reporting capabilities, and eventually mentor internal team members as the analytics practice scales across Tax, Wealth Management, and Operations.

This role is ideal for someone who loves data modeling, business logic, and translating ambiguous requirements into clean, stable pipelines-while navigating a real-world environment with competing priorities, political nuances, and ongoing transformation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Microsoft Fabric & Data Lakehouse Engineering

Manage and extend organizations Fabric-based lakehouse (Bronze → Gold architecture; no Silver layer today).

Build, refine, and optimize data models that power reporting for:

Accounting & Tax

Practice management

Sales & client management

Improve historical data hydration across Practice Engine → PracticePro → Dynamics 365 sources.

Contribute to establishing data governance standards in collaboration with senior architect Chris Hyde.

2. Dynamics 365 & PracticePro Integration

Understand how PracticePro feeds Dynamics 365 Sales/Marketing and the Fabric lakehouse.

Build reporting datasets to support CRM insights, lead scoring, client value metrics, and partner reporting.

Ensure alignment between operational processes, CRM structures, and downstream analytics.

3. Reporting & Analytics Development

Partner with business users to define KPIs (realization, utilization, billing accuracy, engagement metrics).

Deliver “quick wins” reporting while simultaneously shaping longer-term data models.

Build Power BI data models and dashboards that balance clarity, governance, and firm politics.

4. Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) Familiarity

Collaborate with integration team leveraging the ESB (likely Mulesoft/Lite ESB equivalents).

Assist with data flows, mirroring, and change data capture to ensure Fabric receives clean, timely data.

5. Knowledge-Transfer & Team Enablement

Serve as the embedded analytics expert for a team of five internal automation/engineering staff.

Help uplift internal talent through peer review, documentation, and coaching.

Work closely with senior architect (Lead Engineer) during knowledge transition cycles.

What Success Looks Like:

You’ve become the go-to person for data & reporting across Tax and Wealth teams.

You’ve stabilized and expanded the Fabric data lakehouse with trustworthy, governed data sets.

Leadership sees clear improvement in reporting clarity and speed of delivery.

Internal teams begin adopting consistent modeling patterns you helped establish.

You handle the political nuance between “old accounting reporting preferences” vs “modern KPIs” with diplomacy and clarity.

Required Experience

4–6+ years in Data Engineering, BI Engineering, or Analytics Engineering.

Strong hands-on experience with:

Microsoft Fabric

Power BI data modeling (DAX, semantic models, star schemas)

Dynamics 365 (Sales, Marketing, CRM entities)

Experience with financial or operational data (CPA, fintech, banking, consulting, or professional services preferred).

Comfort working across ambiguous requirements and politically nuanced environments.

Familiarity with enterprise service bus (ESB) or similar integration frameworks.

Ability to collaborate with developers, business stakeholders, and operations teams.

Preferred Background

Experience in a tax/accounting environment (ideal)

OR significant exposure to financial datasets (fintech, banking, financial services).

Exposure to Practice Engine or PracticePro is a plus but not required.

Understanding of medallion architectures and data quality patterns.

Soft Skills:

Excellent communication skills (can talk to Accountants, partners, and executives).

Diplomacy + backbone — able to navigate political tension around KPIs, billing models, and reporting philosophy.

Teachable, calm under pressure, and able to translate complex technical realities for non-technical leaders.

Local presence — must be able to come onsite, build trust, understand the culture.
