Job Description

Our client, a leading global mining private equity fund headquartered in Abu Dhabi, is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to expand their presence in North America. This critical role will oversee all North American operations, including investment origination, transaction evaluation, deal structuring and execution, and strategic oversight of portfolio companies. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in investment banking, particularly in M&A execution, debt and equity transactions, and a robust network across key financial markets.

What You'll Do:

• Investment Origination: Take a proactive approach to identifying and sourcing new investment opportunities within North America’s mining sector. Build and nurture strong relationships with key industry players—mining executives, financial advisors, consultants, and investment banks. Develop a well-rounded market coverage strategy, using deep industry insights to pinpoint high-potential projects that align with the fund’s strategic objectives.
• Transaction Evaluation: Lead the full due diligence process, covering everything from financial modeling and technical assessments to market analysis and risk evaluation. Evaluate potential investments with an eye on value creation, strategic alignment, and long-term growth prospects. Deliver clear, data-driven investment recommendations to the investment committee, backed by thorough analysis and strategic insights.
  Structuring & Execution: Oversee the structuring, negotiation, and execution of complex transactions, including M&A deals, joint ventures, and capital investments. Work closely with legal, financial, and technical advisors to manage deal documentation, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive transactions to a successful close. Focus on executing deals efficiently, minimizing risks, and maximizing returns.
• Portfolio Company Oversight: Provide strategic guidance and hands-on support to portfolio companies, with a focus on driving operational excellence, strong financial performance, and growth initiatives. Partner with management teams to set performance targets, monitor key metrics, and identify opportunities for improvement. Act as a trusted advisor on strategic planning, capital allocation, and governance best practices.
• Board and Executive Influence: Leverage your professional network to gain board access and influence key decision-makers in Vancouver, Toronto, and ideally New York City. Represent the fund at board meetings, industry conferences, and investor events to strengthen its presence and build strategic partnerships. Foster strong relationships with portfolio company boards and senior executives to support long-term success.
• Project Sourcing: Bring an entrepreneurial mindset and a relentless drive to uncover and pursue high-potential projects. Maintain an active pipeline of opportunities, staying ahead of industry trends and developments. Use creative sourcing strategies, including networking, market intelligence, and strategic partnerships, to continuously identify new investment prospects.

What You'll Bring to the Table:

• Experience: A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in investment banking with a strong focus on M&A execution, debt, and equity transactions within the mining sector.
• Network: Proven track record of accessing and influencing boards and key stakeholders in major mining/financial hubs, including Vancouver, Toronto, and New York City.
• Technical Skills: Exceptional analytical and financial modeling skills, with the ability to assess complex investment opportunities and drive data-informed decisions.
• Leadership: Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
• Negotiation: Advanced negotiation skills with experience in managing complex, high-value transactions from inception to completion.
• Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate investment strategies and insights to diverse audiences.
• Location: Based in Toronto, with flexibility to travel extensively across North America as required.
