CAE Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a CAE Engineer to support the deployment, operation, and optimization of HPC compute infrastructure and engineering application environments used by engineering and R&D teams. This contract position will provide hands-on technical support across HPC clusters, EDA/engineering software environments, license systems, and user access platforms.
The ideal candidate has strong Linux administration skills, experience supporting HPC or EDA environments, and the ability to automate routine operational tasks through scripting.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Application Environment Operations
- Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade engineering and EDA applications.
- Manage software versions, environment modules, and application version trees.
- Perform application qualification and validation testing and document results.
- Support the deployment and maintenance of engineering software environments.
- EDA Tool Deployment & Support
- Install, patch, and configure EDA tools and supporting environments.
- Build and deploy new engineering application environments based on design organization requirements.
- Troubleshoot installation and configuration issues.
- Provide technical support to engineering and R&D users.
- License Server Administration
- Operate and monitor license servers, including FlexLM/FlexNet and comparable systems.
- Troubleshoot licensing and connectivity issues.
- Monitor license utilization and generate reports on usage, availability, and idle licenses.
- Assist with license optimization and capacity planning.
- HPC Compute Cluster Operations
- Monitor HPC cluster health, queues, and system performance.
- Troubleshoot failed, stalled, and pending jobs.
- Apply and maintain queue, scheduling, and resource allocation policies.
- Track and report system utilization and performance metrics.
- User Access Environment Support
- Deploy and maintain remote desktop and engineering login environments.
- Troubleshoot user session, connectivity, and access issues.
- Support engineers in maintaining reliable access to required computing resources.
- R&D Software & License Management
- Maintain software asset and license inventories.
- Support software procurement, renewals, deployment, and user access.
- Analyze utilization data to support software consolidation and standardization initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve software and license efficiency.
- Linux Administration & Automation
- Provision, patch, and maintain Linux servers and infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot storage, filesystems, and system-level issues.
- Develop scripts and automation to streamline monitoring, reporting, deployments, and repetitive operational tasks.
- Continuously improve the reliability and efficiency of engineering IT infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting HPC infrastructure, EDA/engineering IT environments, or Linux systems administration.
- Working knowledge of HPC job schedulers such as LSF, SLURM, Grid Engine, or equivalent.
- Experience with license management systems, preferably FlexLM/FlexNet or similar technologies.
- Experience supporting engineering, CAE, EDA, or other technical software environments.
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to automate operational tasks using scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or similar.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure and application issues.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering, R&D, and IT teams.
