Shop Manager
Job Overview: Our Transportation client, is seeking to add a NEW Shop Manager to their team. The Shop Manager oversees the daily operations of the repair shop, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, and excellent customer service. This role includes assigning work to mechanics, diagnosing complex equipment issues, managing parts inventory, maintaining safety and compliance standards, and providing technical guidance to the team. The Shop Manager fosters a collaborative work environment while meeting productivity, quality, and scheduling goals for company equipment repairs.
This is a Direct Hire role.
Leadership & Team Management
Plan, schedule, and assign work to service technicians; monitor progress and completion.
Provide coaching, technical guidance, and performance feedback to team members.
Foster a positive, safety-focused, and team-oriented shop culture.
Repair Operations
Interpret work orders and technical manuals to ensure accurate repairs.
Assist with hands-on repair and replacement of defective parts, components, and systems (including ELD/Telematics and on-board camera systems).
Test repaired equipment for proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications and regulations.
Perform safety inspections and prepare documentation in compliance with FMCSA, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.
Quality Control & Compliance
Inspect completed repairs for quality assurance, accuracy, and documentation.
Ensure adherence to all company safety policies and industry regulations.
Maintain up-to-date safety training, product knowledge, and operational procedures.
Operational Oversight
Manage shop inventory, tools, and equipment to support timely repairs.
Monitor productivity and financial performance for the terminal shop location.
Oversee facility and yard maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment.
Complete required administrative tasks promptly and accurately.
Additional Duties
Lead technician training initiatives.
Support local travel needs as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum of 5 years of trailer/heavy truck or heavy equipment mechanic experience (or related field).
High school diploma or equivalent; trade school certification in a relevant field preferred.
Skills & Competencies
Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with customers, vendors, and internal staff.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs., work on ladders, and handle extended periods of walking, bending, and twisting.
Ability to work in environments with noise, vibration, exhaust fumes, and other shop conditions.
Technical Knowledge
Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA, and DOT safety regulations.
Proficiency with maintenance management systems, Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams), and timekeeping tools.
Aluminum and steel welding experience a plus.
Licenses & Certifications
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
Willingness to travel locally as needed.
