Shop Foreman / Mechanic 

Job Overview: Our Transportation client, is seeking to add a NEW Shop Foreman / Mechanic to their team.

The Shop Foreman provides hands-on leadership and technical guidance to shop technicians, supporting the Shop Manager in daily operations. This role ensures that repair and maintenance work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. Acting as the lead technician and primary point of contact for shop activities, the Shop Foreman plays a vital role in workflow coordination, equipment readiness, and team development.

A strong candidate will have advanced mechanical repair skills, proven leadership ability, and experience troubleshooting complex issues. Success in this role requires a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

What you will be doing as a Shop Foreman / Mechanic…

  • Lead shop technicians in daily repair and maintenance activities.

  • Review and oversee repair work orders for timely, high-quality completion.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems with heavy trucks, trailers, and related equipment.

  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repair work as needed.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area; conduct inspections to ensure compliance with FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety standards.

  • Keep accurate records of completed work, safety checks, and inventory.

  • Provide technical assistance and mentoring to less experienced mechanics.

  • Communicate equipment status and repair needs to the Shop Manager and operations team.

  • Assist with onboarding and training of new technicians.

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet operational and safety needs.

Skills you ideally bring to the table as a Shop Foreman / Mechanic…
  • Education & Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.

    • Minimum 5 years of experience as a diesel or heavy truck/trailer mechanic.

    • At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory or lead role within a maintenance or repair shop.

    • At least 1 year of experience with aluminum and steel welding.

    • Tractor-trailer mechanic experience required.

    Skills & Requirements:

    • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

    • Welding skills in aluminum and steel.

    • Basic computer proficiency; experience with maintenance software and Microsoft Outlook preferred.

    • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, walk, climb ladders, twist, and bend.

    • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions.

    • Ability to work in environments with loud noise, vibration, exhaust fumes, paint dust, and other conditions.

    Technical Knowledge:

    • Understanding of OSHA, FMCSA, and DOT safety regulations.

    • Proficiency in using modern maintenance technology systems.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.

    • May require some local travel.

Hours you will be work as a Shop Foreman / Mechanic 

Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional Saturdays as needed; On-call rotation required
