Director of Fleet Maintenance

Job Overview: Our client located in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area, is seeking to add a NEW Director of Fleet Maintenance to their team. The Director of Fleet Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet maintenance operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective performance. This leadership role manages and supports maintenance teams—including tractor and trailer technicians and road service personnel—while collaborating across departments to meet company goals and regulatory requirements.

 

This is a Direct Hire role.


What you will be doing as a Director of Fleet Maintenance…

  • Lead the execution and monitoring of fleet maintenance initiatives and improvement campaigns.

  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to reduce downtime and operational costs.

  • Ensure compliance with all internal policies and FMCSA regulations.

  • Create a team-oriented environment focused on training, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Coordinate assignments and preparation of open trucks for deployment.

  • Maintain and manage relationships with external vendors and suppliers.

  • Oversee and approve repair work completed by outside service providers.

  • Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing maintenance team.

Skills you ideally bring to the table as a Director of Fleet Maintenance…
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a similar fleet maintenance leadership role.

  • Knowledge of maintenance processes, scheduling, and repair procedures required.

  • Class A CDL preferred.

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with team members at all organizational levels.
