Chief Financial Officer
The Chief Financial Officer is a seasoned and strategic leader responsible for overseeing all financial functions of a dynamic, family-owned transportation company. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing financial strategies that drive growth, enhance profitability, and ensure long-term sustainability. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting and balance high-level strategy with hands-on financial management.

 

This is a Direct Hire role.


What you will be doing as a CFO …

  • Partner with leadership to set long-term financial goals, guide strategy, and drive growth through budgeting, planning, and data-driven insights that enhance efficiency, margins, and investment decisions.
  • Oversee all financial operations and reporting, including accounting, budgeting, cash flow, tax compliance, and reporting, while ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls.
  • Manage key external relationships with banks, auditors, insurers, and advisors.
  • Lead and develop the finance and accounting team through mentoring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Enhance data-driven decision-making by implementing KPI dashboards and operational visibility tools.
  • Identify and address areas of overspending, such as fuel efficiency (MPG), maintenance costs, labor, and inventory controls, to improve profitability.
  • Drive automation by adopting or optimizing accounting and operational software to streamline billing, payroll, fleet management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee ERP system implementation and integration, connecting finance with operations, HR, and maintenance.
  • Evaluate strategic investment opportunities, including acquisitions, new terminals, and service line expansions.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks through insurance planning, compliance systems, and contract review processes.
  • Develop budget accountability frameworks across divisions, terminals, and departments, empowering managers with clear financial targets.
  • Design incentive compensation plans aligned with performance metrics such as fuel efficiency, profitability, and operational outcomes.
Skills you ideally bring to the table as a CFO …
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related (MBA or CPA strongly preferred).
  • At least 10 years of advanced financial leadership experience ideally within transportation or logistics.
  • Preferred experience working in privately held or family-owned business settings.
  • Knowledge and expertise in financial management, cost control, and strategic planning.
  • Skilled in financial software, including QuickBooks, Sage, or other industry-specific systems.
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on execution capabilities.
  • Strong emotional intelligence with proven ability to work collaboratively with family stakeholders and long-tenured staff.
