Mortgage Loan Officer

Position Summary:
The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for developing new mortgage business, building strong relationships with members and industry professionals, and providing outstanding service throughout the home financing process. This role focuses on growing the mortgage portfolio by proactively networking, consulting with members, and ensuring a smooth loan process from application through closing.

Essential Functions:

  • Business Development & Networking:

    • Proactively generate new mortgage business through outbound calling, referrals, community involvement, and professional networking.

    • Build and maintain relationships with members, Realtors, builders, and industry professionals to drive loan volume.

    • Expand professional network using LinkedIn and attend local real estate functions to promote credit union mortgage products.

  • Loan Origination & Review:

    • Review and evaluate loan applications for ARM products, ensuring compliance with credit union policies.

    • Pre-screen fixed-rate mortgage applications, run Desktop Underwriter (DU) findings, and uncover FHA/VA opportunities through third-party originators.

    • Conduct thorough interviews, gather financial data, and assist members in selecting the appropriate loan products.

  • Pipeline Management:

    • Manage a pipeline of up to 12 active loans with a goal of closing 6–10 mortgages monthly.

    • Maintain proactive communication with members throughout the loan process to deliver an exceptional member experience.

    • Ensure all documentation is complete, compliant, and confidential.

  • Collaboration & Cross-Selling:

    • Partner with internal departments (e.g., Financial Wellness Managers, Investment Services) to meet broader member financial goals.

    • Identify and promote additional products such as HELOCs, checking accounts, and consumer loans.

  • Member Education & Outreach:

    • Conduct first-time homebuyer seminars, realtor presentations, and table events to educate and build awareness of homeownership opportunities.

    • Consistently follow up with pre-qualified applicants to answer questions and advance them through the loan process.

  • Member Relationship Management:

    • Deliver personalized financial guidance to members by studying common financial challenges and creating actionable financial plans.

    • Serve as a financial accountability partner to help members stay on track toward their goals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in community events promoting homeownership.

  • Maintain flexibility to adapt to changes in duties and responsibilities as business needs evolve.


Qualifications:

Knowledge Required:

  • Credit union policies and procedures related to real estate and consumer loans.

  • Mortgage products, the secondary market, and consumer financial health needs.

  • Competitor offerings in the mortgage industry.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with CRM systems and mortgage origination software.

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills for loan evaluation.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Skilled in public speaking, networking, and business development.

  • Ability to identify and cross-sell additional financial solutions.

  • Comfort with networking after-hours at industry and credit union events.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive, solution-oriented attitude.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of proven success in a sales-driven role.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must be bondable.

  • Maintain an acceptable credit history.

  • Meet SAFE Act (Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing) requirements.
