Commercial Lender

Job Overview: Our financial client located in Des Moines, IA is seeking to add a Commercial Lender to their team. The Commercial Lender is responsible for business development and relationship management of commercial credit portfolios, ranging from basic to highly complex loans. This role focuses on originating commercial loans, managing asset quality, and fostering long-term business relationships to drive growth and profitability while minimizing risk.

This is a Direct Hire role.

• Loan Origination & Portfolio Management

  • Meet or exceed loan production goals for a medium to large commercial loan and deposit portfolio while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Prepare and present credit write-ups for loans, from basic to highly complex, including financial analysis, risk assessment, policy exceptions, loan structure recommendations, and credit ratings.
  • Ensure timely and accurate credit file maintenance by providing required documentation to loan operations.

  Business Development & Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with commercial clients, identifying opportunities to expand banking, mortgage, financial, and insurance services.
  • Actively promote the company in the community through participation in professional and civic organizations.
  • Analyze market trends, economic risks, and industry developments to identify new business opportunities and improve risk management strategies.

  Strategic Planning & Leadership

  • Contribute to the development and marketing of commercial loan programs, including pricing strategies and strategic initiatives.
  • Mentor, train, and assist less experienced peers on complex credit matters.
  • Provide recommendations to senior lenders and loan committees on risk management improvements.

• Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field
• 10-15 years of experience in commercial lending
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company vehicle requirements
• Advanced credit analysis, risk assessment, and underwriting skills.
• Strong financial acumen and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) with advanced Excel skills.
• In-depth knowledge of commercial lending principles, regulatory compliance, and market trends.
