Traffic Safety Engineer

Minimum Experience: 7 years

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Registration: Professional Engineer (PE)

Make a Meaningful Impact

Our Client is seeking an experienced Traffic Safety Engineer to join their growing national Transportation Safety Team. This is an exciting opportunity to help expand a well-established safety practice into new geographies. The position can be based out of offices in Louisville, KY; Cincinnati, Columbus, or Mentor, OH; Boise, ID; Indianapolis, IN; or Portland, OR.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to a dynamic, national safety practice with impactful projects across the U.S.

  • Lead the development of Vision Zero Action Plans, Regional Safety Plans, Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Plans, Vulnerable Road User Assessments, Strategic Highway Safety Plans (SHSPs), and other safety-focused initiatives.

  • Conduct and review safety analyses using the Highway Safety Manual and proven countermeasures.

  • Apply the Safe System Approach (SSA) and provide guidance on effective safety strategies.

  • Represent the firm at conferences, sharing expertise with safety professionals nationwide.

  • Mentor and support junior staff, fostering the next generation of transportation safety professionals.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

  • 7+ years of experience in transportation engineering, safety planning, or related disciplines.

  • Active PE registration required; Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of the Safe System Approach, Vision Zero, and safety countermeasures.

  • Strong project management capabilities and exceptional communication skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with IHSDM is a plus.

  • Self-driven and adaptable, with a readiness to work collaboratively through virtual platforms.
