Job Description

The Operational Technology (OT) solution architect role involves designing and overseeing the implementation of home-grown and commercial-off-the-shelf OT solutions using Microsoft Azure and their integration with various Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Process Control Network (PCN) and Industrial Automated and Control Systems (IACS) systems and applications. The role involves collaborating with stakeholders, evaluating technology options, understanding of the relationships between OT system's architecture and guiding development teams to deliver scalable, secure and efficient OT solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the OT Solution Architect with specific sector knowledge, setting the direction and ensuring alignment with the organization's technical strategy and O&G industry standards
  • Uphold industry best practices and standards specific to the O&G sector
  • Work with product owners to construct and continuously update the OT technology roadmap, aligning with the organization's long-term goals
  • Take the lead in the design and architecture of complex solutions, with a strong focus on ensuring scalability, robust security, cost-effectiveness and alignment with nuanced demands of the O&G industry
  • Work in tandem with various service lines, such as engineering divisions and business stakeholders, to align architectural strategies with the core business objectives and ensure the designs are in sync with the business's forward direction
  • Guarantee solutions meet regulatory demands and O&G-specific IACS and OT cybersecurity standards, including those related to safety, environment, and operations
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies, trends, regulations and standards in the oil and gas industry. Evaluate the potential impact of new technologies and provide recommendations for adoption both in upcoming OT solution designs as well as enhancement of solution architectures

    Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience as an OT/IACS solution architect, preferably in the oil and gas industry or 5+ years of prior experience as an OT software engineer, OT infrastructure analyst or similar role. Prior experience supporting IACS/PCN/OT systems in the oil and gas or energy sector, including knowledge of industry-specific challenges and opportunities
  • Experience with Process Control Network (PCN) architecture and PCN security technologies
  • Familiarity with IACS systems, components and protocols such as Modbus, OPC, etc.
  • Understanding of business to edge infrastructure and environments

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with data integration, data warehousing, and big data technologies
  • Understanding of the O&G sector's operational workflows, including the intricacies of exploration, extraction, refining, and distribution activities, to tailor cloud-based OT solutions that complement the industry's unique needs
  • Competence in tackling technical hurdles specific to the O&G domain, such as efficient asset management in isolated areas, processing extensive seismic datasets, and ensuring compliance with strict regulatory frameworks

  • Certifications in Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity are considered a plus (e.g., GISCP, GCIP, ISA Cyber Expert or other similar certification)
  • Vendor-specific training on Operational Technology, ICS equipment manufacturers and internal network systems are considered a plus
