Underwriter
Location: 4 weeks On-Site Training (Phoenix, AZ) (100% Remote after 4 weeks of training on-site)
Duration: 12 Months
Pay Rate:$25/hr
The Underwriter I is responsible for evaluating credit card and consumer loan applications by analyzing applicant information, credit bureau data, and membership profiles to assess risk and make sound lending decisions within a defined authority limit.
This role requires prior experience underwriting credit cards and unsecured/consumer lending products, along with strong independent judgment and risk assessment capabilities.
Interview loan applicants to obtain relevant financial and personal information
Review and underwrite credit card and consumer loan applications
Validate credit, income, and supporting documentation
Analyze credit bureau reports and full loan application packages
Underwrite lower-risk credit card and consumer loans within assigned authority limits
Document loan decisions and required stipulations
Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory standards
Identify and mitigate credit risk in accordance with policy
Credit Card & Consumer Loan Underwriting Experience – 2+ Years (Required)
Direct experience underwriting credit card products and unsecured/consumer loans
Strong understanding of credit risk evaluation
Risk Assessment & Critical Thinking – 2+ Years
Ability to independently assess risk using application data, credit bureau reports, and USAA Membership Profile
Comfortable making decisions within defined lending authority
Knowledge of Consumer Loan Processes & Industry Acumen – 2+ Years
Understanding of credit card and consumer lending lifecycle
Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements
