Assistant Controller
Location: Greater Philadelphia Area (Hybrid/Onsite)
Compensation: $125,000–$145,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonus + Comprehensive Benefits

Our client, a rapidly growing national home improvement company generating approximately $500 million in annual revenue across multiple markets, is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its Finance leadership team.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, or Assistant Controller ready to broaden their leadership scope. You’ll partner directly with the Controller and CFO to lead accounting operations, strengthen financial reporting, develop a talented team, and build scalable processes within a complex, high-volume, multi-entity organization.
What You’ll Do
Accounting Leadership & Financial Reporting
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Oversee General Ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting across multiple entities.
- Ensure accurate financial statements and compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Perform detailed account analysis and reconciliations, identifying anomalies, discrepancies, and emerging accounting issues.
- Own day-to-day General Ledger structure and Chart of Accounts, including account setup, mappings, allocations, and reporting logic.
Accounting Operations & Internal Controls
- Help oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll Accounting, Fixed Assets, and Cash Management.
- Ensure accurate expense allocation across entities, departments, business units, and locations.
- Strengthen internal controls and improve accounting accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
- Support annual audits, tax compliance, lender reporting, and banking relationships.
ERP, Systems & Reporting
- Support the continued development and optimization of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and related financial systems.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and support ERP, corporate card/spend management, and reporting/BI platforms.
- Independently investigate financial-system issues and partner with IT when deeper technical support is required.
- Improve internal reporting, automation, data integrity, and financial visibility.
- Identify structural gaps and recommend improvements to accounting systems and processes.
Leadership & Partnership
- Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
- Delegate effectively while maintaining accountability and high standards.
- Partner with FP&A, Operations, IT, and Executive Leadership to improve financial visibility and decision-making.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships while helping move the accounting organization forward.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience leading and developing accounting teams
- Experience in a high-volume, multi-entity accounting environment
- Strong General Ledger, month-end close, account reconciliation, and financial reporting experience
- Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify anomalies, and investigate discrepancies
- Experience maintaining or improving Chart of Accounts and GL reporting structures
- Strong ERP and financial systems experience, including configuration, troubleshooting, or optimization
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- CPA preferred
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience strongly preferred
Experience in home services, construction, manufacturing, distribution, consumer services, public accounting, or another complex multi-location organization is preferred.
