Job Description

RCS Staffing has an immediate need for a Component Analysis Engineer in Lynchburg, VA or Charlotte, NC. This is a full-time, direct-hire, on-site position with our client. This position offers a competitive compensation package including benefits, vacation, and paid holidays.

Overview of YOUR role as a Component Analysis Engineer

In this role, you will perform advanced structural and fatigue analysis for nuclear plant components, supporting both new reactor designs and operating plant modernization projects. You’ll apply ASME Code and regulatory requirements to evaluate pressure vessels, piping, and safety-related systems—ensuring nuclear-grade quality and performance. This position combines deep technical expertise with business development responsibilities, allowing you to contribute to both engineering excellence and client growth initiatives.

As a Component Analysis Engineer YOU will:

  • Perform stress, fatigue, and fracture mechanics analyses in accordance with ASME Section III and Section XI nuclear design codes.

  • Evaluate and qualify safety-related pressure boundary components such as reactor pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and piping systems.

  • Develop finite element models (FEM) using industry-standard software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar) to assess design margins and component behavior.

  • Prepare detailed technical reports, calculations, and design documentation to support client deliverables and regulatory submittals.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, materials, and I&C specialists, to ensure fully integrated design solutions.

  • Provide technical input and support to business development activities, helping identify new opportunities, prepare proposals, and engage with clients on project scopes.

  • Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable nuclear codes, standards, and safety regulations.

YOU are the ideal Component Analysis Engineer candidate if you have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).

  • 5–10 years of experience in nuclear component design, analysis, or qualification.

  • A current Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with ASME Code (Section III or XI) fatigue and pressure boundary analysis.

  • Strong understanding of nuclear quality assurance, safety-class equipment, and regulatory requirements (10 CFR 50, NQA-1).

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and client-facing roles.

It’s a BONUS if you have:

  • Experience with finite element analysis tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or FEMAP.

  • Familiarity with systems and design standards used by major nuclear OEMs.

  • Prior experience supporting proposal development, client presentations, or technical marketing.

  • Knowledge of advanced reactor or small modular reactor (SMR) component analysis.
