RCS Staffing has an immediate need for a Principal Substation Design Engineer. This is a full time, direct hire, remote position with our client. This position offers a competitive package including benefits, vacation, and holidays.

Overview of YOUR role as a Principal Substation Design Engineer

Our client is seeking a Principal Substation Design Engineer to lead a team of engineers while growing and maintaining a portfolio of clients. This is an exciting leadership opportunity with a direct impact on the future of the company and the regional energy landscape. You will lead substation design projects across the Southeast U.S., mentor junior engineers, and contribute to business development initiatives.

As a Principal Substation Design Engineer YOU will:

• Lead and mentor a team of junior substation design engineers, fostering growth and development.
• Oversee substation design, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and safety codes.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring high quality and technical accuracy.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
• Manage project lifecycles from concept to commissioning, including budget and resource planning.
• Conduct site visits and collaborate with clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure project success.
• Stay current on industry codes, trends, and technologies to drive innovation and compliance.

YOU are the ideal Principal Substation Design Engineer candidate if you have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one state (or ability to obtain in other states).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in substation design and project management.
• Proven experience mentoring and leading technical teams.
• Strong knowledge of substation design, protection and control schemes, and electrical codes (ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NESC).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel to project sites within the Southeast U.S.

It’s a BONUS if you have:

• Master’s degree in a related engineering field.
• Experience with substation design software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
• Background in renewable energy integration or utility-scale infrastructure.
• Familiarity with regulatory environments and the power grid in the Southeastern U.S.
