Job Description

ProspectBlue seeks a Controller for a client in Central Virginia!

Job Summary:
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s financial results, and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and taxes.

Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and operations.

Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.

Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.

Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements as needed.

Provide leadership and direction to the accounting team; supervise, train, and mentor junior staff.

Partner with the CFO to support financial planning and analysis activities.

Manage external audits, including preparing required documentation and interfacing with auditors.

Drive process improvements and efficiencies in financial operations.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).

7+ years of accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.

Experience with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, QuickBooks).

Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

High attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills:
Experience in [industry-specific experience, e.g., SaaS, manufacturing, nonprofit, etc.].

Familiarity with international accounting standards (IFRS) is a plus.

M&A and financial modeling experience preferred.
