Job Description

Position Overview:
Our client, a growing food processing company in the Richmond area, is seeking a Plant Manager to oversee daily operations at a new processing facility. This facility specializes in warehousing, pasteurizing, roasting, and distributing imported food goods.

The Plant Manager will be responsible for directing and managing all plant functions, including maintenance, product quality, staffing, and operational efficiency. This role is ideal for a strategic leader with experience in food manufacturing who can build and train a high-performing team while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company standards.

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Plant Manager will collaborate across all departments to achieve operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and train a team of supervisors to achieve divisional goals, fostering a culture of trust and high performance.

  • Oversee and support team meetings with department supervisors to ensure alignment and effective communication.

  • Collaborate with HR to implement fair and equitable policies, enhancing workplace culture and employee satisfaction.

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive training programs, ensuring backup training for each department and adherence to company hiring and disciplinary procedures. Topics include worker safety, food safety, and code of conduct.

  • Control and monitor physical inventories, procurement of production, plant, and warehouse supplies, and manage costs effectively.

  • Develop budgets and analyze financial statements and performance data to meet financial goals.

  • Train employees on equipment operation and preventative maintenance procedures.

  • Monitor production to uphold quality standards, maximize productivity, and minimize product waste. Oversee sanitation practices and conduct internal audits.

  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, GFSI, and sustainability programs for operational safety.

  • Maintain certifications, permits, and compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Oversee plant inspections by state and federal agencies, maintaining necessary permits and managing regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • 5+ years of management experience within the food manufacturing industry.

  • HACCP, PCQI, & FSMA knowledge or training.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, etc.).

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls, and communicate effectively.

  • Occasionally required to sit, squat, stoop, kneel, or climb ladders.

  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to withstand cold storage temperatures for extended periods (warm gear provided).

  • Noise levels may vary, with some areas requiring hearing protection (provided as needed).
