Position Summary:
Detail-oriented and highly analytical Cost Accountant to oversee the accounting functions within a food processing, warehouse, and distribution operations.
This position is essential for ensuring accurate cost tracking, inventory valuation, and timely financial reporting to aid in strategic decision-making and improve operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong cost accounting expertise, knowledge of manufacturing and distribution processes, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain standard cost systems and methodologies to track production, labor, and overhead costs.
Analyze cost variances between actual and standard costs, providing comprehensive reports and actionable insights to management.
Collaborate with other production facilities globally to share and implement best practices.
Oversee accurate costing and valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
Work with warehouse and distribution teams to ensure accurate inventory transaction recordings.
Prepare detailed periodic cost reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual analyses for senior management.
Ensure cost accounting practices comply with GAAP and internal policies, assisting with external audits as needed.
Identify opportunities for process improvements to optimize production efficiency and reduce waste.
Work with operations and supply chain teams to monitor key cost drivers and identify cost-saving initiatives.
Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, with a focus on cost management and operational efficiency.
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic business decisions.
Act as a liaison between accounting and operational teams to facilitate effective communication and resolve cost-related issues.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
3+ years of cost accounting experience, preferably in food processing, manufacturing, or distribution sectors.
Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory valuation methods.
Proficient in NetSuite and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Excellent analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data clearly and concisely.
Proven ability to work effectively across departments in a fast-paced environment.
Self-motivated and proactive in identifying opportunities for process improvements.
