Our client, a leading financial institution, is looking for a Lead Database Engineer to own and drive the database strategy across the organization. This is a great opportunity for someone ready to lead end-to-end database operations and roadmap planning in a highly regulated, mission-critical environment.
Serve as the technical lead and primary owner of all database platforms, with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
Collaborate with development and QA teams to maintain and optimize dev/test environments, while supporting performance, stability, and availability.
Lead version upgrades, system tuning, backup strategies, and performance monitoring.
Drive the automation of database refreshes and builds, reducing manual effort and improving speed and reliability.
Oversee and manage day-to-day tasks of a managed services provider handling routine DBA operations—ensuring timely and quality delivery.
Set strategic direction and help shape the future state of database systems through roadmaps, best practices, and proactive planning.
Participate in an on-call rotation. Initial issues are triaged by the managed services team, with escalations routed to your team.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
5+ years of hands-on experience designing, tuning, troubleshooting, and supporting complex database systems and data warehouses.
Deep knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2016-current) and Oracle (including Oracle 19c).
Advanced proficiency in T-SQL, SSIS, and SSRS.
Proven ability to automate administrative tasks using SQL scripts or PowerShell (preferred).
Familiarity with database security best practices and operating in regulated environments.
Experience managing change control processes in financial or regulated industries.
Exposure to RedGate Data Masker, Rubrik, and encryption technologies.
Strong understanding of database and client-side encryption.
A proactive problem-solver who thrives in a leadership role without direct reports.
Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors.
Able to translate technical concepts for business stakeholders.
Self-driven with strong ownership and the ability to operate independently or within a team.
