Data Center HVAC Service Technician
Location: Columbus, OH
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Data Center HVAC Service Technician to provide exceptional field support across a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems. This role focuses on commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and quality assurance. Candidates should have extensive HVAC experience and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
HVAC Service & Maintenance:
- Service, maintain, and repair a range of HVAC systems, including:
- CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units
- DX equipment up to 100 tons
- Packaged, water-cooled AC units up to 150 tons
- Water source heat pumps
- Computer room units with humidifiers and controls
- Gas and electric heating systems up to 150 tons
- Pneumatic, electronic, and modular DDC control systems
- Air handling systems including VAV systems
- Perform system start-ups, diagnose malfunctions, and conduct repairs or part replacements.
- Complete scheduled preventive maintenance tasks such as coil cleaning, fan belt adjustments, and ductwork inspection.
- Install wiring and connect HVAC components to power sources.
Communication & Safety:
- Maintain regular communication with dispatch after service calls.
- Update job status and service records accurately.
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure proper use and upkeep of tools and equipment.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Proficient in interpreting mechanical, electrical, and controls schematics.
- Knowledge of PLCs or Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently in diverse environments.
Education & Certifications:
- High School diploma or Trade School graduate (or GED).
- Universal Refrigerant Card (Type I or Universal).
- Certified Mission Critical Operator (CMCO) and Certified Mission Critical Professional (CMCP) a plus.
Experience & Additional Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial HVAC experience.
- Significant field experience in service, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Willing to work flexible hours, including weekend on-call rotations.
5-10 Hour days (8 hours straight time/2 hours overtime) - Clean driving record and ability to travel extensively.
- OSHA-10 and relevant safety certifications (or ability to obtain).
