Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a hands on Production Manager to lead our manufacturing operation in Houston. In this role, you will supervise production supervisors and direct labor staff, ensure adherence to project specifications and safety standards, and drive continuous improvement in cost, quality, schedule, and productivity. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, purchasing, project engineers, quality control, and other cross-functional teams to deliver on-time, on-budget manufacturing of heavy mechanical and fabrication assemblies.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Direct day-today operations to meet budgetary, quality, safety, and schedule goals.
  • Plan, develop, and implement production lines for pumps, motors, process piping, valves, skid-based units, and instrumentation.
  • Forecast workspace requirements and headcount based on backlog and projected workload.
  • Schedule, assign, and monitor work orders to ensure timely completion.
  • Hire, train, develop, and appraise production supervisors and hourly staff.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Address performance issues promptly and in collaboration with HR when necessary.
  • Validate and update department training curriculum; ensure all team members complete required safety and technical training.
  • Interpret P&ID, ISO, and engineering assembly drawings to validate production plans.
  • Develop and implement standard work procedures that enhance department productivity.
  • Maintain metrics for quality, schedule, and cost performance; use data to recommend process improvements.
  • Enforce redline and as-built drawing processes.
  • Oversee and enforce safe work practices, including Lock-out Tag-out procedures, in partnership with EHS resources.
  • Train employees on changes in safety regulations, company policies, and HSE programs.
  • Ensure the department adheres to ISO and other quality management system requirements (if applicable).Develop, monitor, and report on operating costs within functional areas.
  • Alert management to cost or labor overruns; propose and implement corrective solutions.
  • Participate in capital and expense budget preparation; prioritize shop expenditures to remain within budget.
  • Identify, recommend, and prioritize acquisition of tools and capital equipment to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, project engineers, quality control, and project managers to verify that all materials and specifications are on track.
  • Communicate daily production status, material movement, and potential bottlenecks to ensure alignment across teams.
  • Complete tasks as directed by operations leadership with minimal supervision.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 7–10 years of technical experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting, specifically heavy mechanical/fabrication.
  • At least 8 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret P&ID, ISO, and engineering assembly drawings.
  • Proficient in shop math.
  • Management and safety training (e.g., OSHA, Lock-out Tag-out).
  • Hands-on experience with pumps, motors, process piping, valves, control valves, skid-based units, and instrumentation.
  • Solid understanding of AutoCAD.
  • Strong computer literacy: MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues and solutions effectively with project engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, with a commitment to continual improvement.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and maintain constructive working relationships at all levels.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working in an ISO-certified environment.
  • Familiarity with AWS/ASME welding procedures.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for up to 11 hours per day (with scheduled breaks) and work up to 6 days a week.
  • Exposure to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and noise; use of steel-toe boots and safety glasses is required.
  • Work occurs in both normal office settings and shop/production environments that are not temperature-controlled.
