Mechanical Estimator – Industrial Projects (Kingsport, TN)

Seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator with a background in structural steel and industrial construction. This role supports estimating for complex projects in sectors such as chemical, pulp & paper, and heavy industrial. The ideal candidate will contribute to accurate, competitive bids while collaborating with project management and procurement teams.

Responsibilities:

• Estimate full-scope industrial projects with a focus on mechanical systems and structural steel
• Attend pre-bid meetings and review specifications, drawings, and scopes of work
• Organize and maintain bid documentation and estimate due dates
• Submit RFIs and track clarifications throughout the bidding process
• Prepare material takeoffs and clarify exclusions for project proposals
• Obtain competitive pricing from vendors and subcontractors
• Develop estimates that are easily reviewed, adjusted, and converted into purchase orders
• Coordinate with project managers and construction managers on execution strategy and complexity factors
• Provide post-award material "buy out" lists to procurement
• Maintain unit rate database and promote supplier competition
• Support the development of project change requests

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years of industrial mechanical estimating experience (structural steel experience preferred)
• 2- or 4-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, OR 7–10 years of direct field/estimating experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate across departments
• Proven ability to maintain accuracy under deadlines and manage multiple estimates
• High integrity, professional demeanor, and team-oriented approach
