Building Automaton Service Specialist

Under moderate supervision, the Building Automation Service Specialist performs remote diagnostics, preventative maintenance, repairs, installations, and commissioning of building automation control systems. This person is accountable for ensuring high customer satisfaction levels through direct, onsite client interaction. They may also act as a leader when a team is needed to complete complex tasks and mentor others. The individual must understand the principles that comprise a Building Control system and possess the ability to learn new products and strategies as they are released.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all Control Logic and customer safety standards and promotes workplace safety awareness.
  • Regularly communicates with customers to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Communicates outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and/or repairs through the field quotes system. Is observant of additional opportunities we may have to solve issues. Actively participate with the service manager to engineer and estimate solutions.
  • Performs system maintenance in accordance with established service practices and direction, including field controllers, servers, workstations, and field hardware. Maintains feedback on equipment scheduling and modifications needed to service account manager.
  • Reports issues or changes to management immediately in accordance with company policy and practices. Interfaces with the service manager to coordinate activities as required in a professional manner.
  • Performs diagnostics and repairs on control systems. Has knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital control systems and the ability to test and make program edits.
  • Provides training to customers on their specific control systems operations. Delivers documentation to the customer for training as needed or as contractual obligation requires.
  • Works with the customer's mechanical service provider to aid in equipment diagnostics when required.
  • Follows an established learning path and conducts extensive self-study (reading, research, and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in the company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.
  • Provides solutions to increasingly complex system problems by troubleshooting systems and leading others on how to resolve problems. Works with subcontractors and other trades as needed to ensure proper operation.
  • Completes all job-required documentation on time, including me sheets, expense reports, posting of work orders, on-site documentation, and project status reports, in accordance with company policy as required.
  • Performs other dues as assigned.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years’ experience in the HVAC Controls Industry or similar low voltage systems.
  • Must maintain a valid and current Driver's License and be insurable by the company's insurance carrier.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the typical workweek, including air travel, overnight hotel stays, and unexpected travel.
  • Ability to climb ladders or use other lift equipment more than 8 feet above grade and capable of lifting items up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or Technical School in HVAC
  • Experience interacting with a large and diverse number of simultaneous challenges, requiring knowledge of multiple disciplines.
  • Field experience and an understanding of the installation and operation of Automated Logic Controls, as well as the ability to understand/navigate third-party control systems and integration.
  • Third-party integration experience (BACnet, Modbus, and Lon).
  • Some experience with Automated Logic including WebCTRL, SiteBuilder, ViewBuilder, and EIKON LogicBuilder.
  • Able to create, download, and troubleshoot complex HVAC system logic using WebCTRL and associated software. Some experience with WebCTRL software functions and utilities.
  • The ability to work alone, manage time effectively, and communicate proficiently with customers.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networks, including wireless technology design and troubleshoot
  • Able to read and understand Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical blueprints.
  • Possess computer and networking skills to properly maintain their laptops and mobile devices and experience in maintaining and troubleshooting Ethernet and ARCnet communications.
  • Strong background in operating and controlling mechanical equipment and their control sequences.
