FIELD SERVICE TECH II


Position Overview:

The Field Service Technician I plays a crucial role in delivering on-site support to our clients. This involves tasks like commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and retrofitting of mechanical and electrical systems within projects. This position is responsible for diagnosing issues in mechanical and electrical equipment, controls, communications, and computers as needed, while meticulously documenting procedures. Collaborating closely with the Quality Department, Project Engineers, Project Managers, Process Engineers, client representatives, and other Field Engineers and Technicians is a key aspect of this role.

The Field Service Technician I also contributes to monitoring Quality Assurance standards for completed equipment, and may conduct QC checks or supervise them. This role involves compiling operational and maintenance (O&M) information, sharing critical O&M data during project design and construction phases, and assisting in creating final Installation, Operation, and Maintenance (IOM) manuals.

Additionally, the Field Service Technician I takes charge of commissioning the mechanical components of projects, interfacing with various internal departments and external stakeholders, including Project Managers, Production Managers, Quality Assurance Managers, and Engineering Managers. Cross-training in controls and electrical systems is also required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compile relevant O&M information.
  • Communicate critical O&M data throughout project phases.
  • Assist in compiling final sets of IOM manuals.
  • Provide valuable field feedback.
  • Create clear "red-line" drawings for submission to Project Managers.
  • Facilitate smooth hand-off from the construction phase.
  • Oversee field commissioning of projects.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment comprehensively.
  • Document commissioning of at least the mechanical and electrical portions of projects.
  • Collaborate closely with various Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Project Managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, service technicians, and client representatives.
  • Assist the Production Department in assembly or training factory personnel.
  • Contribute to Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities, possibly overseeing QC checks.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Substantial field experience within construction support, startup, repair, and maintenance work.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, ASME, and other applicable codes and practices.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to domestic and international job sites.
  • Comfort working in field construction conditions.
  • Possession or ability to obtain relevant safety certifications, including OSHA10 General Construction and NFPA-70E.
  • A safe driving record.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings and schematics.
  • Skillful use of Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project.
  • Familiarity with at least one brand of PLC or Building controls.
  • Independent work capability on-site.

Education & Training:
  • Preferably completed HVAC Trade school and/or apprenticeship training.
  • Military training and/or relevant technical work experience can be considered as a substitute for trade school certification.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • Approximately 80% travel, both domestically and internationally.
  • Occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
  • Involves activities like finger use, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Visual acuity requirements include color and depth perception, and field of vision necessary for data analysis, computer operation, and reading.
  • Work may take place in indoor environmental conditions.
