Job Description

About the Role

Pinnacle Partners is recruiting for an Account Manager in the Louisville, KY area. This is a remote, relationship-focused sales position responsible for maintaining and growing an established book of business across Louisville, Southern Indiana, and surrounding Kentucky markets. The ideal candidate will have 1–5+ years of experience in industrial sales, technical sales, value-driven sales, account management, or a similar customer-facing role, along with a strong mechanical mindset and the ability to communicate effectively with everyone from plant-floor personnel to executive leadership. This role will be approximately 90% account management and growth within existing customers and 10% new business development, with the opportunity to take over an established book of business valued at approximately $2 million.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and grow an established book of business within an assigned territory.
  • Manage customer relationships and identify opportunities to increase account penetration and overall account value.
  • Serve as a trusted resource to customers regarding technical products, applications, and solutions.
  • Work with customers to understand their needs and recommend appropriate products and solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver technical application and product presentations to customers, including engineers and executive-level audiences.
  • Communicate effectively with both plant-floor personnel and executive leadership within customer organizations.
  • Facilitate inbound customer requests by helping customers identify the appropriate products, quantities, and solutions.
  • Educate customers on products, applications, and capabilities throughout the sales process.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen existing customer relationships and expand business within current accounts.
  • Develop new opportunities through a combination of warm leads, referrals, inbound inquiries, outbound activity, and other marketing efforts.
  • Maintain approximately a 90% farming and 10% hunting sales approach.
  • Conduct regular customer visits throughout the assigned territory to strengthen relationships and identify additional opportunities.
  • Utilize phone, email, text, and other communication methods to maintain customer relationships and drive business growth.
  • Identify opportunities to create competitive differentiation through value-added solutions and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate customer information, sales activity, opportunities, and follow-up activities within the CRM system.
  • Manage personal activity, meetings, follow-up, and territory responsibilities while working remotely.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customer operations, applications, and technical requirements.
  • Work with customers across industries including industrial manufacturing, oil and gas, life sciences, clean energy, and semiconductor markets.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support customer requirements and develop custom solutions when appropriate.
  • Take ownership of customer relationships throughout the sales process rather than simply completing individual transactions.
  • Monitor account activity and identify opportunities for additional products, applications, and services.
  • Manage territory activity with a focus on meaningful customer interactions and activities that move opportunities forward.
  • Complete approximately two meaningful sales activities per day, which may include customer calls, meetings, visits, presentations, or other business-development activities.
  • Travel throughout the assigned territory for customer meetings and account development.
  • Maintain strong organization and responsiveness while managing a remote territory.
  • Complete additional sales and customer-support responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 1–5+ years of experience in industrial sales, technical sales, value-driven sales, account management, or a similar customer-facing role.
  • Strong relationship-building and customer communication skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships with both operations personnel and executive-level customers.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience presenting products, services, or technical solutions to customers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude or hands-on mechanical knowledge.
  • Mechanical mindset with an interest in understanding how products, equipment, and systems work.
  • Ability to learn technical products and understand how they apply to customer operations.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment and remain accountable for customer activity, meetings, follow-up, and territory management.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage an established book of business while also identifying new opportunities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate CRM activity and customer information.
  • Comfortable traveling throughout an assigned territory for customer meetings and visits.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers ranging from plant-floor personnel to executive leadership.
  • Strong problem-solving and consultative sales skills.
  • Ability to build long-term customer relationships rather than relying solely on transactional sales.
  • Ability to understand customer needs and communicate the value of technical solutions.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of automation, fluid systems, valves, or related industrial products.
  • Previous experience selling to manufacturers.
  • Previous experience selling into oil and gas, life sciences, clean energy, semiconductor, or other technical industrial markets.
  • Experience with account saturation or expanding relationships within existing customer accounts.
  • Engineering experience or education.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a STEM-related field.
  • Experience in technical or application-based sales.
  • Experience with custom solutions or engineered products.
  • Previous experience managing an established book of business.
  • Experience identifying cost-saving or value-added opportunities for customers.
  • Previous competitive sports experience.
  • Experience presenting technical products or solutions to groups of customers, engineers, or executives.

Benefits Overview:

  • Annual bonus opportunity of up to 20% of base salary.
  • Remote position.
  • Approximately 3–4 days per week traveling throughout the assigned territory, with approximately 1–2 days working from home.
  • $50 phone reimbursement.
