Magnetic is proud to be partnering with a progressive and community-focused local authority in the lower North Island to find a capable and values-led Planner. This is a rare opportunity to take on meaningful, broad-ranging planning work while enjoying an exceptional lifestyle in one of New Zealand’s most liveable regional cities.

The Opportunity

As part of a knowledgeable and supportive planning team, you’ll be responsible for assessing and processing land use and subdivision consents, contributing to policy and plan development, and offering advice under the Resource Management Act. You’ll also assist with planning compliance checks for building consents, LIMs, and other regulatory processes, and engage in hearings and public-facing advisory work.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with early-career planning experience looking to build depth and confidence in a district council setting.

You’ll Bring:

• A relevant qualification in Planning or Resource Management

• 2+ years’ experience in a planning role (district or regional council, or consultancy)

• A working knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• A collaborative, people-focused approach

• Enthusiasm to learn and develop within a supportive environment

We welcome applications from those with a background in regional planning who are keen to transition into district-based planning work, as well as planners seeking progression into intermediate or senior responsibilities. There are two roles available.
